Choose your perfect destination in the Canary Islands

Are you wondering which Canary Island to visit on your next holiday? Do not worry! Whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation, family fun, or romantic escapes, we’ll help you find the island that perfectly fits your desires.

Gran Canaria, Las Palmas, for families and outdoor enthusiasts

Las Palmas is an excellent choice for families and those who love outdoor activities. With its beautiful, safe, and well-maintained beaches, it will keep the kids entertained for weeks. When you're ready for a change from the sun and sand, there are plenty of family-friendly activities, restaurants, and shopping options to explore.

Start at the famous Playa de las Canteras, which stretches miles along the coastline. This easily accessible beach offers excellent services, such as showers and umbrella rentals, and the promenade is packed with diverse cafés and restaurants.

For a fun indoor activity, take your family to the Poema del Mar aquarium. It has over 550 species of water animals and thousands of plants from around the world. Or plan a day trip to Aqualand Maspalomas. The children will love the crazy water slides, and the parents can relax at the designated chill-out zones.

Las Palmas is also a great base for all outdoor enthusiasts, with easy access to the surrounding natural wonders. If you love to hike, do not miss the area around Roque Nublo. The rock itself is a ninety-metre-high monolith standing alone on a hill. The surrounding areas, like Valleseco and Fataga, are great for exploring and have several hiking routes of varying levels.

If you like your outdoors a little less wild, take a pleasant stroll around the Viera y Clavijo Botanical Garden. Its extensive gardens showcase a huge variety of native plants; the cactus area is especially impressive.

Fuerteventura for watersport fans and peace lovers

Fuerteventura is the answer to the question of which canary island is best for surfing or other water sports. The unspoiled, vast beaches and consistent winds make it the place to be to catch some waves.

Sotavento in the south and El Cotillo in the north are both great spots for surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing. There are plenty of places to rent equipment and surf schools to help you get started. Be sure to book early during the windiest months, from April to September, as demand is high.

If you would rather have some tranquillity and skip the thrills and adventure, Fuerteventura is also your best Canary Island to visit. The island is less developed than the other Canary Islands, and there are many remote, laid-back places to explore. For example, Cofete Beach is an untouched stretch of coastline that offers solitude and breathtaking views.

Something that will please both the sporty and the peace seekers is a visit to the volcanic craters of Montaña de Tindaya, a sacred site for the indigenous people. The hike up to the mountain will get your blood pumping while the surrounding lunar-like landscapes calm the mind.

Lanzarote for culture vultures and romantics

If you are looking for more than sun, sea and sand, Lanzarote is the perfect Canary Island for you.
It offers a unique mix of volcanic landscapes, tranquil beaches and cultural activities, making it an ideal destination for a grown-up trip with friends or your partner.

The highlight of the island is the volcanic landscapes of Timanfaya National Park. You can see the rugged, stony and sandy terrain and rocky coastline on guided walks or independently. You can even ride a camel to have the complete desert experience.

Lanzarote is also known for its most important artist, César Manrique and his works, celebrating the local nature. Visit his home, the César Manrique Foundation, built into volcanic bubbles, or explore Jameos del Agua, an underground volcanic grotto turned into a cultural centre.
Don’t miss a visit to La Geria, Lanzarote’s unique wine region. Its vineyards, growing in volcanic soil, produce the island’s famous Malvasía wine. A wine-tasting tour here is a must for foodies and wine lovers.

Tenerife for all ages and nightlife seekers

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and offers a wide range of activities to keep you busy – regardless of your age or interests. That is why it is especially great if you are planning a trip together with the whole family, from your great-grandmother to the little ones.

If you are travelling with your family, the best area to stay is Costa Adeje. It boasts an impressive number of family-friendly hotels and activities that suit all ages, including dolphin watching, snorkelling and trips up to Mount Teide (try the cable car for amazing views!). Of course, there are also fantastic sandy beaches such as Playa de Fañabé and Playa del Duque.

Another great family option is Playa de las Américas, with its high-quality resorts and many shopping malls. With activities like water parks, mini-golf, and even an open-air cinema, it’s a fantastic place for kids and adults alike.

For nightlife seekers, Tenerife is unmatched. Playa de las Américas is the island's entertainment hub. You could see a live music performance one night and head out for salsa dancing the next.
Tenerife is also emerging as a culinary destination with a unique fusion of Mediterranean and Latin American flavours. The island even boasts seven Michelin-starred restaurants, perfect for food lovers who want to explore beyond traditional Spanish cuisine.

Finnair flies to Gran Canaria and Tenerife daily and to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura twice a week during the winter season. The flights to Gran Canaria are operated with a wide-body aircraft, so you can also test our new elevated Business Class.
