Culinary adventures above the clouds – Our new onboard snacks and meals you'll love
Our in-flight food and beverage service will change to the autumn and winter season food and drink menu on our European and long-haul flights on 30.10. The new menus will be available on both flights departing from Helsinki and returning to Helsinki until 28.1.2025. At the same time, we are also updating our in-flight sales selection and pre-order selection.
Travel snacks from the on-board sales selection or as a pre-order
As the winter season approaches, we are updating our snack and beverage selection available for in-flight purchases with new products requested by our customers. There will be more filling snacks than before, such as the Barebells protein bar, the new Froosh smoothie, and the salami snack, which can, for example, complement a cheese platter.
We have also added more non-alcoholic beverage options to our sales selection, such as non-alcoholic beer and Nocco energy drinks. Hot chocolate will also be available on European flights as a new winter season option. On flights to ski destinations in Central Europe and Northern Finland, you can add some zest to your hot chocolate with mint liqueur.
We’re expanding our sales selection by including a few interesting and helpful items on our long-haul flights and those bound for Las Palmas: Finnair playing cards, a toothbrush and toothpaste set, and a Fazer chocolate bar in travel size.
On all our flights – with the exception of our short flight to Tallinn – we offer blueberry juice or water free of charge. Coffee, tea and other beverages and snacks can be purchased in Economy Class on European flights during the inflight service. When you buy any drink from the buy-on-board selection, we offer you a one-euro discount on any snack product. You can see the whole buy-on-board selection on our website or mobile app.
Travelling to Europe in Economy Class? An updated selection of pre-order meals is now available. Depending on the route, you can pre-order a fresh sandwich or a tasty light or hot meal.
We added your favourite sandwiches to the pre-order selection: the Nordic combo now includes tasty cold-smoked salmon on rye bread, the Premium combo cold-smoked reindeer-brie cheese sandwich and the vegetable combo mozzarella-paprika-focaccia. You can now also buy a light, cold meal from the pre-order selection, i.e. chicken caesar salad or beef bulgogi bowl salad. On our website you can see all the products available for pre-ordering.
The autumn and winter menu offers classic flavours
The menus on Finnair flights change two to three times a year, and the meals served on the flights vary depending on the departure station, for example. In our in-flight service, we will switch to autumn and winter menus on 30 October. The winter menu is available until 28.1.2025.
In the long-haul Business Class menu, our chefs will take you on a culinary journey around the world, combining simple, fresh Nordic flavours with local flavours from our destinations. The wine list has also been updated to suit the new menu.
"Seasonal ingredients and flavours have inspired the autumn and winter menu. In Business Class on long-haul flights departing from Helsinki, we serve smoked whitefish, crayfish tails and Shimeji mushrooms or salmon tartare and spicy sriracha shrimp served with trout roe and cucumber in scallop cream as a starter. In addition, goat cheese tartlet with semi-dried cherry tomatoes and redcurrant compote is served as a second starter. For the main course, we serve slow-cooked beef entrecôte with garlic mashed potatoes, root vegetables and sautéed porcini mushrooms in blackberry sauce or pike-perch and salmon terrine with creamy kohlrabi and roasted vegetables in lobster sauce as a fish alternative. In addition, there is always a third, route-specific option," Development Chef Sami Oksava from Finnair Kitchen says.
You can look at the Business Class menus for long-haul flights before your trip on our website. In Manage booking, you can conveniently choose the main course in advance.
In Business Class on long-haul flights, in addition to meals, we offer small movie treats and snacks throughout the flight. We added new products to the selection: Pågen cinnamon buns, Fazer Domino biscuits and cold-smoked reindeer and hummus sandwiches made in our own Finnair Kitchen on flights departing from Helsinki.
The menus in Premium Economy class on long-haul flights are also refreshed. At the same time, we will supplement the second serving on longer flights by adding a chicken sandwich to the meal on flights departing from Helsinki and a fruit salad on flights arriving in Helsinki.
In Premium Economy class on our long-haul flights, you can enjoy two meals: a high-quality main meal and a lighter second meal or snack. In addition to the meals, you can enjoy a free selection of hot and cold refreshments and alcoholic beverages, excluding sparkling wine, throughout the flight. Did you know that you can now pre-select the main course for your flight in Manage booking, as long as you do it at least 24 hours before your flight?
In Economy Class on long-haul flights, we serve a tasty hot meal with non-alcoholic beverages and one free glass of wine or a mild alcoholic beverage (excluding sparkling wine). The main course varies depending on the destination. On flights to Delhi, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Osaka, Shanghai, Seoul and Singapore, you can choose from two main courses, while on other flights, there is one menu. On our longer flights, we will also serve you a light meal or snack with non-alcoholic drinks just before landing. Additional drinks and snacks can be purchased from the in-flight sales selection.
The much-anticipated feature has now been added to Manage booking also for Business Class travellers on European flights: you can pre-select the main course for lunch and dinner from four options, except for the short Arlanda route. Thinking ahead pays off, as only one set menu is available on board if you don’t pre-select your main course.
If you have a special diet, you can choose a special meal up to 24 hours before your flight departure in Manage booking or your Finnair Plus profile if you are a Finnair Plus member.
Meals are planned taking into account the specifics of the flight
When planning meals, we also consider route destinations, travel lengths, and flight schedules. On our long-haul flights from Helsinki to Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai, due to the late departure time of flights, we first offer a light meal in Business Class and a delicious brunch before the flight lands. Business Class brunch consists of breakfast-style starters and dessert selection, as well as a main course you can choose from three different options. We offer brunch-style, lighter meals on these routes before landing also in Premium Economy and Economy classes.
Our cabin crew will be happy to tell you more about the in-flight service, and you can also find out more information about it on our Nordic Kitchen page. In our travel updates, you can read more about the service on Iberia flights to Madrid and Barcelona and about Widerøe flights to Bergen and Tromsø.
