Sometimes travel plans change. Should that happen, worry not, because changing or cancelling your flights on our site is easy and fast.

Changing flights

Can I change my booking?

You can change your flight's date and time in the Manage booking self-service if the following applies to you*.

  • You have a Classic or Flex ticket.
  • You booked through Finnair.com or our app.
  • You have not booked an award flight or upgraded your flight using Avios or tier benefits.

Please contact our customer care to change award flights and flights you have upgraded. Get in touch with your travel agency to change group bookings or bookings made through them.

*Exceptions apply: you are travelling with your pet in cabin on a flight to/from Malaga; bookings with unaccompanied minor service; your booking includes a waitlisted flight, for example, because of an upgrade request.

How much does the change cost?

It depends on where you make the change, the rules of your ticket type, availability and possible fees. For example, the change is free if you make it online, there is no difference in price, and no fees apply. If no seats were available in the original booking class, you would have to pay the price difference.

Because of the different variables, the best place to check the actual cost (if any) is in Manage booking. Always review the change and its price carefully before confirming.

Step-by-step guide for online changes

If you have already checked in, re-enter the online check-in and cancel it. After that, you can change the flight until the check-in for your first flight closes. View check-in times

  1. Go to Manage booking. Look up your booking by inserting your booking reference or e-ticket number and family name.
  2. Find the Modify your trip section and select changing flights.
  3. Select the flights to change. You are changing the flights for all passengers in your booking.
  4. Choose the new available dates and flights. You are guided through the selection.
  5. Review your flight changes.
  6. If there is no price difference, all you have left to do is confirm the change.
    • If the new ticket costs more than the original, the final step is to pay the price difference. The payment confirms the change.
    • If the new ticket costs less than the original, we will automatically refund the difference to your original payment method. We are unable to refund differences of less than €5. Our average refund handling time is seven business days.

Did you buy a travel extra for your original flight? We will transfer it to your new flight if possible. If it is of critical importance for your trip, please contact customer care for the change. Otherwise, you can request a refund.

Cancelling flights

Can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your flight and get a refund in the following cases.

*For flights from Japan, Classic ticket holders can also cancel any time before the scheduled departure time and get a refund (flights only) for a fee.

If you bought your ticket from a travel agency, travel website or another airline, please contact them directly for cancellation.

Important to know before cancelling

  • Travel extras are non-refundable unless you have Finnair Cancellation Cover or cancel within 24 hours.
  • In Manage booking, you can only cancel the whole reservation. If you and your travel companion have the same booking and need to cancel the flights for one of you, our chatbot will gladly help. You will find the chat in the bottom right corner.
  • Flights on the same ticket can't be used out of sequence and, therefore, can't be separately cancelled. For example, if you booked Rovaniemi–Berlin flights via Helsinki, then you cannot cancel only the Rovaniemi–Helsinki flight.
  • Once you have cancelled your booking, it cannot be undone.

Step-by-step guide for online cancellation

You can cancel the flight until the check-in for your first flight closes. View check-in times

  1. Go to Manage booking. Look up your booking by inserting your booking reference or e-ticket number and family name.
  2. Find the Modify your trip section and select cancelling flights.
  3. Review the information on the window that pops up.
  4. Click Continue (don't worry, you won't cancel your booking just yet).
  5. Review the flights to be cancelled. Currently, it's only possible to cancel the booking for all passengers.
  6. Go through the terms and conditions and check the box at the bottom of the page.
  7. Confirm the cancellation.
  8. We will now automatically submit a refund request on your behalf. Refunds will be calculated based on your ticket type and fees. Our average refund handling time is seven business days. The refund is delivered to your original payment method.

You'll be notified and asked to review the changes in Manage booking. Depending on the disruption causing the change, you are offered at least one of the three options:

  1. Confirm the new schedule we have suggested at no additional cost.
  2. See and choose other alternatives for the whole journey or only the affected flight at no additional cost.
  3. Cancel the trip and have it fully refunded, regardless of your ticket type. If you have already checked in, re-enter the online check-in and cancel it. After that, you can cancel the trip.

For options 1 and 2, your check-in status will be automatically transferred, and you can still change or cancel your flight afterwards if your ticket type allows it.

You'll be notified and asked to review the new travel plan in Manage booking. We will try to find you the best alternative flight(s) as quickly as possible.

You can have the following options if your flight has been cancelled:

  1. Confirm the new schedule we have suggested at no additional cost.
  2. Select another alternative flight at no additional cost.
    • If you can't find a suitable flight, but have a ticket type with the flexibility to change travel dates, you can browse and choose from more dates in Manage booking. For that, you need to confirm the suggested flight and then go to Manage booking to change your flight. Note that in this case, fare differences may apply.
  3. Decide not to travel and cancel the trip for a full refund, regardless of your ticket type. If you have already checked in, re-enter the online check-in and cancel it. After that, you can cancel the trip.

For options 1 and 2, you can still change or cancel your flight afterwards if your ticket type allows it.
