How to collect Avios with a Finnair Visa credit card

How many Avios can I collect with a Finnair Visa credit card?

The number of Avios you can collect depends on which credit card you have. 

With a Finnair Visa Credit card, you collect 1.7–2 Avios for every euro you spend, depending on your membership tier. Finnair Plus Basic members collect 1.7 Avios for every euro spent, and Finnair Plus Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum Lumo members collect 2 Avios for every euro spent. 

Finnair Visa Credit Light is a lighter version of the Finnair Visa Credit card. With the card, you collect 1 Avios for every 2 euros you spend, regardless of your membership tier. 

Example: A Finnair Plus Silver member makes purchases worth € 1,500 per calendar month. With a Finnair Visa Credit card, the member would collect 3,000 Avios (1,500 x 2), and with a Finnair Visa Credit Light card, 750 Avios (1,500/2).

Please note that your Finnair Visa credit card's credit limit is the maximum sum from which you can collect Avios during one billing period.

From which purchases do I collect Avios?

You collect Avios when you pay for your purchases with Finnair Visa cards. You cannot collect Avios from bill payments, cash withdrawals, service fees or bank transfers (including MobilePay transfers to private persons). Your card's credit limit is the maximum sum from which you can collect Avios during one billing period.

How do I get the most out of the card?

Collect more Avios by concentrating both your daily purchases and travel reservations on a Finnair Visa card. 

Example: Let's imagine you are a Finnair Plus Basic member with a Finnair Visa Credit card. In this case, you collect 1.7 Avios per euro spent on your credit card.

• If you make purchases of €1,000 during a calendar month, you will collect 1,700 Avios during the month (1.7 x 1,000 = 1,700).
• If you, instead, make purchases worth €1,700 during a calendar month, you will collect 2,890 Avios during that month (1.7 x 1,700 = 2,890).

If you make purchases of €1,000 every month for a year, you can collect 20,400 Avios per year (12 x 1.7 x 1,000 = 20,400). With this amount, it is possible to pay for two travel class upgrades from Economy Class to Business Class from zones 1-3 (including flights within Europe). 

Alternatively, if you make purchases worth €1,700 every month for a year, you can collect 34,680 Avios per year (12 x 1.7 x 1,700 = 34,680). With this amount of Avios, you could, for example, book two Finnair award flights within Europe in Economy Class. 

So, by concentrating your purchases, you collect more Avios. In addition, when you use your Finnair Visa Credit card to make purchases worth at least €1,500 during a calendar month, you will also collect 300 tier points. Read more about collecting tier points with Finnair Visa Credit.

When will the Avios I collect with my credit card be added to my Finnair Plus account? 

Avios will be added to your Finnair Plus account in the middle of the month following the purchase. Avios accrue by calendar month based on the date of purchase, not by the debiting date or by the billing period. 

For example, Avios collected in January 2025 will be added to members' accounts from 12 to 16 February 2025. The transaction will be recorded in your Finnair Plus account with the description ‘Finnair Visa’ or ‘Finnair Visa Light’, and the posting date is always the first day of the month. 

With Finnair Visa Credit, the number of Avios you collect each month depends on your membership tier at the time when the Avios are awarded. With Finnair Visa Credit Light, you’ll always collect 1 Avios for every 2 euros spent. 

Who is a Finnair Visa credit card for? 

You can apply for a Finnair Visa credit card if you are a Finnair Plus member and at least 18 years old. You must have a Finnish social security number and a permanent address in Finland when applying for the card. You don’t need to have an existing account at Aktia to apply for the card.
