More comfort in the air – discover the upgraded Embraer cabin experience

We are revamping the cabins of our Embraer fleet to bring more travel comfort to our European flights. The first refurbished Embraer aircraft are already in service, and the goal is to renew our entire fleet of 12 Embraer aircraft gradually by spring 2026.

The colour scheme and atmosphere of the Embraer cabin have been designed to match the experience on our long-haul flights and in the new Finnair Lounge on the Schengen side of Helsinki Airport.

"We wanted to create a harmonious, fresh and inviting travel environment for our customers. In the renewed cabin, shades of grey and dark blue are familiar from our long-haul aircraft as well as a hint of wooden laminate," says Eerika Enne, Head of Inflight Customer Experience.

Different atmospheres with lighting

As part of the cabin overhaul, we will switch to LED lighting technology, so Embraer aircraft will have fresher and more pleasant light in the cabins in the future.

"The new lighting makes it possible to create different atmospheres in the cabin at different stages of the flight. When you board the aircraft, the cabin lighting is at its brightest, and the lighting is adjusted according to the phases of the flight. The lighting is also slightly different when flying during the day and at night," Eerika says.

All-new seats

The refurbished Embraer cabins feature all-new seats. Due to their design and cushioning, the seats in rows 1 to 9 offer some extra comfort.

"The seats in the first rows also recline slightly, whereas starting from row 10, the seat does not recline, but has a slight recline already installed," says Eerika.

The number of seats will remain unchanged after the cabin upgrade, and all Finnair E190 aircraft will have 100 seats as before.

Lighter aircraft

One of the goals of the cabin refresh has been to reduce the weight of the aircraft, as it has a direct impact on fuel consumption and emissions. Weight has, therefore, been a factor in material choices.

"The seats are lighter than previous seats in the Embraer aircraft, and the cabin carpet is also made of lighter material. The changes will reduce the weight of the aircraft by up to about 150kg per aircraft," Eerika mentions.

The whole Embraer fleet will be renewed by spring 2026

Embraer aircraft are in use on many routes in Finland and elsewhere in Europe, mainly on shorter routes in Northern and Central Europe. Our partner Norra operates this aircraft.

"It is not visible in the booking system whether the flight in question will have a refurbished cabin, but by spring 2026, all flights operated with the Embraer aircraft will have redesigned cabins. You are warmly welcome to our flights to explore the new cabin!" Eerika wishes.
