What is Advance Passenger Information (API) and how do I provide it?

Advance Passenger Information (API) is a set of information that passengers must provide before travelling to some countries. Finnair is obliged to collect and send this information to their border control authorities.

API typically includes:

  • Passport information
  • Full name as it appears on your passport – please note:
    • If your name includes special characters or accents, use the characters from the machine-readable zone (MRZ) at the bottom of the photo page.
    • If the name in your Finnair Plus profile differs from the one in the passport, make sure to use the name in your passport.
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Country of residence
  • Visa information (if applicable)
  • When travelling to or via USA: the address of your first night’s stay

How to provide API:

You can provide basic details, such as passport information, through Manage booking before check-in. If you’re unable to do so or if your destination country requires additional details, you’ll be asked to provide them during online check-in.

Please note that providing API is not the same as obtaining travel documents, such as visas, which you need to apply for separately based on the rules of your destination country. To ensure compliance, check the travel documents needed for the destination country from our  Travel requirements for your trip page.
