The land of the long white cloud

New Zealand is referred to by many names, but one universally known fact is that it possesses some of the most breathtaking scenery on Earth. Auckland, the country's largest city, provides travellers with a convenient gateway to this wild, natural country while being an interesting destination in its own right. The most obvious sight visitors will see is the Auckland Sky Tower, at 328 metres tall providing a central anchor to the city centre. The Britomart area offers lively waterfront dining and entertainment. Head to the Avondale Sunday Market to sample Polynesian fare and see the bounty of fresh produce this country has to enjoy. The fascinating culture of the indigenous Māori people is displayed to the public at the Auckland Museum and the rich artistic history of the entire country can be viewed at the Auckland Art Gallery.

Any visitor to New Zealand will feel the pull of the great outdoors and luckily even a short trip to Auckland can yield unbelievable scenery to those willing to explore. Overlooking the city itself are several cones of extinct volcanoes, which can be hiked up. Similarly panoramic views can be had from the Auckland Harbour Bridge if you're willing to make the climb to dizzying heights. The Waitakere Ranges offer the dream-like scenes you've heard about and are only 45 minutes' drive out of town. The connection with the ocean is vital to all New Zealanders and you can feel this when you visit stunning local beaches like the popular Piha or the slightly further-afield Karekare.

You can reach Auckland with Finnair and oneworld alliance members' extensive route network.

Auckland International Airport (AKL)

The airport is located 21km southwest of the city centre. A free shuttle bus takes passengers between terminals and taxis, buses and private shuttles connect you with the city.

Always remember to check your airline’s terminal and check-in times.
