Security check

As of 1 September 2024, only up to 100ml liquid containers will be allowed in carry-on baggage at all European airports, including Helsinki Airport.

Priority security at Helsinki Airport is open daily 4:30 a.m.–8 p.m.

Going through security control

At the airport, you will have to go through security control before proceeding to the gate area. Security control may also be required when you are transferring to a connecting flight.

Departures from Helsinki Airport

When departing from Helsinki Airport, place the following items on a tray for X-ray scanning:

Your small bag and possible carry-on bag
Overcoat, jacket, scarf, belt and other loose items

You can leave your laptop and other electronics as well as liquids in your carry-on baggage unless otherwise requested.

Thanks to modern security control equipment, you can also take up to two litres of liquids per passenger. The size of the liquid containers in carry-on baggage is restricted to a maximum of 100ml packages at all European airports, including Helsinki Airport, as of 1 September 2024.

Transfers at Helsinki Airport and departures from other airports

When transferring to a connecting flight at Helsinki Airport or departing from other airports, be prepared to place the following items on a tray for X-ray scanning:

Your small bag and possible carry-on bag
Overcoat, jacket, scarf, belt and other loose items
Bag of liquids (usually max. 100ml packages in a 1-litre resealable plastic bag), including cosmetics, medicine and food items
Electronic devices, such as laptops, headphones, cameras and power banks.

If you are a transfer passenger and your connecting time is very tight, you may be instructed to use a dedicated lane for short connections. Please always remember to follow the instructions shown on the airport monitors.

Priority security

You can find a convenient priority security lane through security at many airports.

Please show your boarding pass when entering the priority security, as your boarding pass includes all necessary information about your eligibility to use the priority security. You can use a mobile boarding pass, a home-printed boarding pass or a boarding pass from the check-in kiosks or desks.

When you start your journey at Helsinki Airport, you are allowed to use the priority security lane if

you have bought a Finnair Business Flex, Business Classic or Business Saver* ticket or
you are a Finnair Plus Platinum Lumo, Platinum, Gold or Silver member and you're travelling on a Finnair marketed flight (the flight number on your ticket begins with an AY code).

At Helsinki Airport, Finnair Plus Platinum and Gold members may also bring children under 18 years of age and a guest through the priority security lane, provided that they are all travelling on a Finnair marketed flight. Finnair Plus Platinum Lumo members may bring children under 18 years of age and four guests through the priority security lane, provided that they are all travelling on a Finnair marketed flight.

When departing from any other airport, you are allowed to use the priority security lane if

you are flying on a Finnair operated flight and
you have bought a Finnair Business Flex, Business Classic or Business Saver* ticket or
you are a Finnair Plus Platinum Lumo, Platinum, Gold or Silver member.

*The Business Saver ticket is only available for flights departing from Japan.
