Frequently asked questions

I am travelling to Australia. Some flights are operated by a company other than Finnair. Which airline’s baggage rules allowance, extra charges, etc apply?

If your ticket includes flights operated by other airlines, IATA standards of the Most Significant Marketing Carrier (MSMC) define which airline's baggage regulations apply for your journey. If the geographically longest or most significant flight of your journey is not marketed by Finnair, but by another airline, this airline's rules also apply to Finnair flights. The baggage allowance is shown on your ticket.

If you are travelling with baggage that exceeds your baggage allowance, you will have to pay excess baggage fees as defined by the airline that is carrying out the check-in. If possible, the extra bag charges are calculated according to the Most Significant Marketing Carrier's extra bag charges.
