Finnair to say goodbye to four “zulu planes”

We are this spring saying goodbye to four of our oldest Airbus A321 aircraft that have reached the end of their economic life cycle.

We are this spring saying goodbye to four of our oldest Airbus A321 aircraft that have reached the end of their economic life cycle.

The aircraft registration ID numbers and production dates of the so called “zulu planes” and the production dates for when each of them was taken into use are:

OH-LZA: 28.01.1999

OH-LZB: 04.03.1999

OH-LZC: 08.03.2000

OH-LZD: 09.06.2000

Finnair has mainly used these planes for short-haul flights in Europe.

The bodies and engines of the aircraft will be sold separately to aviation industry resellers. The buyer will convert the bodies into cargo use and the engines will be dismantled and used as spare parts.

During the pandemic, Finnair recycled two A319 aircraft. One of them was recycled in the UK and one for the first time ever in Finland. Decisions for what to do with aircraft that are taken out of use are made separately for each plane.
