You can travel on Finnair flights while pregnant with certain restrictions. We want to ensure that flying is safe for you and your child.
Please review the guidelines below if you are travelling while pregnant.
When can I fly during pregnancy
- Flying is allowed until the end of the 36th week of pregnancy (35 weeks + 6 days) on flights that last over 2 hours and until the end of the 38th week of pregnancy (37 weeks + 6 days) on flights that last 2 hours or less. This applies to singleton pregnancies that have progressed normally.
- After the 32nd week of pregnancy, you must provide us with a pregnancy certificate for air travel if your flight lasts over six hours.
- In the case of a multiple pregnancy, flying is allowed until the end of the 32nd week of pregnancy (31 weeks + 6 days) if the pregnancy has progressed normally.
We always recommend carrying a letter or statement from your treating doctor or midwife on the flight as proof that your pregnancy has progressed normally. The letter or statement from the treating doctor or midwife* must indicate:
- Whether your pregnancy is singleton or multiple
- What is your expected due date (EDD)
- That your pregnancy has progressed without complications
The letter or statement should be dated as close to the travel date as possible and cover the entire duration of the trip (outbound and inbound), provided you don’t require any medical care during the trip.
* A certificate signed by a midwife or maternity clinic nurse is accepted from medical clinics in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
High-risk pregnancies
In high-risk pregnancies, you must complete and send us a medical clearance information form (MEDIF) at least 72 hours before your flight departure to ensure that air travel is completely safe for you.
Please complete both pages of the form and follow these steps:
- Complete Part 1 yourself or with the help of your representative.
- Have your treating doctor* complete Part 2.
- Scan the signed forms and submit them through this contact form.
