It’s in the details: Continuous updates to our inflight experience

Finnair's 100th anniversary celebrations have been reflected throughout the year 2023 in various collaborations and product launches both on the ground and in the sky. At the same time, we have made minor upgrades to our inflight experience that may have gone unnoticed. Have you noticed these on our flights?

Cabin renewal complemented by final touches

In connection with the cabin renewal of our long-haul aircraft, we introduced new tableware and textiles made in cooperation with Iittala and Marimekko. The renewal was complemented in spring 2023 with new cutlery designed by Iittala and, among other things, napkins designed for the new Business Class.

The Iittala tableware is designed by Harri Koskinen and includes a bread basket and beverage tray made in Finland.

Finnair's amenity kit renewed – Premium Economy receives its own design

In September, we updated the travel package available in Business and Premium Economy classes on our long-haul flights. Premium Economy class now has its own packaging made of reusable and washable kraft paper. The patterns are Sahalaitaraita and Kannon alla, designed by Paavo Halonen for Marimekko. The familiar Marimekko patterns Joonas and Pieni Melooni will continue in Business Class, but the pouch and sleep mask will be made of 100% recycled polyester.

"Both Business Class and Premium Economy pouches are designed to be reused after the trip," says Kristos Mavrostomos from Finnair's Customer Experience team.

At the same time, we have renewed the contents of the amenity kit in both travel classes. The amenity kit will include a sleep mask, earplugs and a Humble Co. toothbrush and toothpaste.

"We conducted a survey of our customers to find out which products are most important to them in an amenity kit. Based on the results of the survey and reviewing our product wastage, we made the decision to renew the contents of the amenity kits," says Mavrostomos.

In the Business Class toilets on our long-haul flights, customers can enjoy new SEES hand soap and hand and body lotion made in Finland. Business Class customers can also request socks, a comb and a shaving kit if needed. This range will be complemented in November with SEES' unique lip balm, containing immunity-boosting forest microbe extract.

SEES products in Business Class and Finnair lounges

In addition to Business Class toilets on our wide-body aircraft, SEES products can also be found in our lounges. The scent of Finnish SEES products surrounds our customers in the lounges, beginning with room diffusers, as well as hygiene and hair care products in the sauna and shower facilities. These are complemented by hand soap and moisturiser for toilets.

"At SEES, we wanted to create a scent path that continues from lounges to aircraft. In addition to scent, we have focused on high-quality ingredients. Our products are based on combining essential oils with pure and fully biodegradable ingredients", says Elisa Koivumaa, CEO of SEES.

Before the centenary year ends, you still have time to spot special Finnair 100 products on our flights. For example, the bottle of water available on flights has received a Finnair 100 look to celebrate the anniversary.

In addition, to celebrate Finnair's 100th anniversary, we have introduced new red and white wines in Economy Class with bottle labels based on original Finnair posters designed by Erik Bruun in the 1950s and 60s.

"We are constantly making small changes in our inflight experience, based on the feedback from our customers, among other things. Our goal is to create a modern, Nordic experience – the feel of Finnair," says Mavrostomos.
