Culinary adventures above the clouds – Our new onboard snacks and meals you'll love

Our in-flight food service will change to the late-winter and spring menu in Business Class on our European flights and on all long-haul flights departing Helsinki on 29 January. The new menus will be available until 20 May.

Nordic simplicity and local flavours from our destinations

The menus on Finnair flights change two to three times a year, and the meals served on the flights vary depending on the departure station, for example. In our in-flight service in Business Class on European flights and long-haul flights departing Helsinki, we will switch to the late-winter and spring menus on 29 January. The spring menu is available until 20 May.

In the long-haul Business Class, our chefs will take you on a culinary journey around the world, combining simple, fresh Nordic flavours with local flavours from our destinations.

"Seasonal ingredients and flavours have inspired the late-winter and spring menu. When flying west from Helsinki, our starter options are beef in Ponzu sauce with pickled radish, sesame seeds, spring onions and seaweed caviar, and pumpkin puree, roasted and pickled pumpkin and feta cheese with pumpkin seed oil. When flying east, the starters are blinis with shrimp Skagen, rainbow trout roe, pickled red onion and dill, as well as the same pumpkin starter as served westbound," Development Chef Sami Oksava from Finnair Kitchen says.

The main courses are beef with porcini mushroom risotto, pumpkin, broccoli, corn and black garlic sauce, and the fish option is smoked rainbow trout with potato purée, oven-baked root vegetables, broccolini, cabbage and dill cream sauce. In addition, there is always a third, route-specific option.

Dessert options on the spring menu include brownie with salted caramel and nuts served with raspberry sauce or blueberry cake. The third option is a cheese selection that includes Peltola’s blue cheese and Herkkujuustola's Mouhitaler with fig compote.

You can look at the Business Class menus for long-haul flights before your trip on our website. In Manage booking, you can conveniently choose the main course in advance, until your flight is 24 hours away.

In Business Class on long-haul flights, in addition to meals, we offer small movie treats and snacks throughout the flight. The selection includes, for example, Pågen cinnamon buns, Fazer Domino biscuits, and cold-smoked reindeer and hummus sandwiches made in our own Finnair Kitchen on flights departing from Helsinki.

We will also update the menus in Premium Economy Class on our long-haul flights, and also in this travel class, you can select the main course in advance in Manage booking. Choosing a main course in advance is always a good idea; this ensures that you get your preferred main course, even if it is also a favourite of other passengers on the flight. There are always two main course options, varying depending on the destination. The early spring menu includes, for example, beef stew, creamy polenta and green garden vegetables with red wine sauce or grilled chicken breast with pea puree, carrots and butter milk sauce. Before landing, a second light meal or a snack is served in Premium Economy Class. In addition to meals, you can enjoy a complimentary selection of hot and cold beverages, excluding sparkling wine, throughout the flight.

In Economy Class on long-haul flights, we serve a tasty hot meal with non-alcoholic beverages and one complimentary glass of wine or a mild alcoholic beverage (excluding sparkling wine). The main course varies depending on the destination. On flights to Delhi, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Osaka, Shanghai, Seoul and Singapore, you can choose from two main courses, while on other flights, there is one menu. On our longer flights, we will also serve you a light meal or snack with non-alcoholic drinks just before landing. Additional drinks and snacks can be easily purchased from the onboard sales selection via the in-flight entertainment system. On our long-haul flights, between main services, customers can browse the onboard sales selection from the in-flight entertainment system and pay for purchases securely on their phones. The cabin crew will deliver the products you have purchased to your seat.

New: pre-select your main course from four options in Business Class on European flights

Did you know that when travelling in Business Class on European flights, you can also choose the main course for lunch and dinner beforehand? One menu is available on board, so it's good to pre-select the main course in Manage booking. The main course options available in the pre-selection are:

  • Grilled chicken breast with pea purée, Parisienne carrots and buttermilk sauce
  • Beef stew with red wine and vegetable sauce, creamy polenta and green vegetables
  • Creamy mushroom risotto with chantarelles, king oyster mushrooms and leek
  • Marinated prawns with white wine and butter sauce, Tagliatelle pasta and leek

If you have a special diet, you can choose a special meal for long-haul flights and Business Class on European flights up to 24 hours before your flight departure in Manage booking or your Finnair Plus profile if you are a Finnair Plus member.

Travel snacks from the onboard sales selection or as a pre-order

Before the winter season, we updated our onboard snack and beverage sales selection with new products requested by our customers. Now, more filling snacks are available, such as the Barebells protein bar, the Froosh smoothie, and the salami snack, which can, for example, complement a cheese platter. We also added more non-alcoholic beverage options to our sales selection, such as non-alcoholic beer and Nocco energy drinks.

In addition, we expanded the onboard selection on long-haul and Las Palmas flights by including a few interesting and helpful items: Finnair playing cards, a toothbrush and toothpaste set, and a Fazer chocolate bar in a travel size of 250 g.

On all our flights – with the exception of our short flight to Tallinn – we offer complimentary blueberry juice or water. Coffee, tea and other beverages and snacks can be purchased in Economy Class on European flights during the inflight service. When you buy any drink from the buy-on-board selection, we offer you a one-euro discount on any snack product. You can see the whole buy-on-board selection on our website or mobile app. We also bring some seasonal options available, and our cabin crew will tell you more during flights.

Travelling to Europe in Economy Class? You can pre-order a sandwich combo or a tasty light or hot meal, depending on the route. In the sandwich combo, a fresh sandwich comes with a smoothie, a chocolate bar and a cup of coffee or tea. The Nordic combo in the pre-order selection includes tasty cold-smoked salmon rye bread, the Premium combo cold-smoked reindeer-brie cheese bread and the Vegetable combo mozzarella-paprika-focaccia. You can also buy a light, cold meal: chicken Caesar salad or beef bulgogi bowl salad. In addition, we offer pepperoni mozzarella pizza and Margherita vegetarian pizza in our pre-order selection.  On our website, you can see all the products that are available for pre-ordering.

Meals are planned taking into account the specifics of the flight

We consider route destinations, travel lengths, and flight schedules when planning meals. On our long-haul flights from Helsinki to Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Nagoya, due to the late departure time of flights, we first offer a light meal in Business Class and a delicious brunch before the flight lands. Business Class brunch consists of breakfast-style starters and dessert selection, as well as a main course you can choose from three different options. We offer brunch-style, lighter meals on these routes before landing, also in Premium Economy and Economy Classes.

Our cabin crew will be happy to tell you more about the in-flight service, and you can also find out more about it on our Nordic Kitchen page. In our travel updates, you can read more about the service on Iberia-operated flights to Madrid and Barcelona and about flights to Bergen and Tromsø operated for Finnair by Widerøe.
