This is how you get into the Christmas spirit on our flights

The magical Christmas season is upon us, and Santa’s official airline has plenty in store. Read how you can get into the Christmas spirit on our flights. If you’re lucky, you might even get a glimpse of Santa Claus himself!

The festive season is a busy time for us, as people travel across the world to reunite with their loved ones. Our flights are filled with festive spirit, bringing a touch of magic to your journey before your celebrations even begin.

Like Santa Claus and his elves, many of our employees work throughout the holiday season. During the Christmas week, you can see our cabin crew and airport customer service personnel at Helsinki Airport wear cute Christmas hats to enhance the joyful spirit of Christmas.

Plane spotters might get a glimpse of one of our special Christmas aircraft – or maybe you’re lucky enough to fly on one! Two of our A320s (OH-LXM and OH-LXB) will have “Santa Claus’ official airline” stickers, while one A350 (OH-LWA) aircraft will shine in a festive Santa livery.

While on board, you can get into the holiday spirit by enjoying our in-flight entertainment system. Have you already enjoyed Christmas favorites like Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, the Finnish animated kids' film Santa Claus and the Magic Drum, or the bitingly humorous comedy-drama Family Time (Mummola)? And what’s Christmas without a Home Alone adventure? These seasonal highlights will be available on our wide-body aircraft by mid-December, so settle in and make the most of our in-flight entertainment on your upcoming flights.

We’ll also have a pre-recorded public announcement from Santa on board and our boarding music will be changed for the holiday season.

Our lounges at Helsinki Airport will have special Christmas decorations from 29 November to 6 January. Lounge customers can enjoy a special Christmas menu and glögg and Christmas music will play in the background for the last two weeks of December. Santa Claus might also pay visits to the lounges!

Santa Claus' official airline

This year, our traditional Santa tour brings him to Paris, London, Berlin, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong and Delhi, where he will visit local charity events such as schools and kindergartens, engage in public meet-and-greet events, visit our travel agent partners, and attend PR and media events leaving behind a trail of smiles and a sprinkle of Christmas spirit wherever he treads.

Sometimes on longer journeys Santa lets his reindeers rest and hops onboard his official airline Finnair, but mostly Rudolf leads the way. As Christmas approaches, Santa's sleigh switches off the GPS and is guided by Rudolf, the lead reindeer, and the northern lights. The Finnish Nature assists in bringing Santa and his reindeer home.

Welcome on board during this extraordinary time of year! We will be there taking care of you and making you feel special with a hint of Christmas magic up in the air.
