Travel document pre-checks in online check-in on selected routes

You can get your travel documents checked and verified digitally already before your journey.

We will introduce digital travel document pre-checks as part of the online check-in on selected routes, making your travels smoother. As of 6 November 2024, we will check your travel documents digitally when you travel to and from Thailand, Japan and South Korea. We will enable digital pre-checks on more routes later.

Your journey at the airport starts smoother when your travel documents have been verified in advance. You will also know that your travel documents are OK for your trip, giving you peace of mind.

Using the tool is easy, do this:

  • Check the travel requirements for your trip on our website or the website of the government or embassy of your destination country and make sure you have the required documents.

  • Check in for your flight normally online. You will be directed to the travel document pre-check, when it’s available for your flight. Please note that the travel document pre-check is not yet available in Finnair mobile app.

  • You can verify travel documents for all passengers on the same reservation, one at a time. Each passenger’s nationality is asked before the actual travel document check.

  • Scan your travel documents using your phone or upload a picture of your document.

  • Once your documents have been verified, you will see a green sign confirming that the pre-check was successful, and you are ready to travel.

  • Then continue to finalise the check-in.

  • With your boarding pass in your pocket, at the airport you can go directly to bag drop or via security to your boarding gate. When using our self-service bag drop, first print the bag tag from one of the check-in kiosks.

  • Remember to take the required travel documents with you when you travel, as you need to be able to show them at any point of your journey, for example at border control.
