Frequently asked questions

What is a heavy bag?

If your baggage weighs between 23 and 32 kg with max measurements of 90x75x45cm, it will be considered a heavy bag. A handling fee, that will be charged when travelling with heavy or large bags, covers the special handling arrangements that need to be made for such bags. However, the heavy bag charge for bags up to 32kg does not apply if you travel in Business Class on Finnair long-haul flights (excluding infants, and tickets bought between 1 June 2023 and 10 December 2023). You can always check your baggage allowance from your ticket and Manage booking.

Baggage weighing more than 32kg will need to be checked in separately as cargo. If you’re planning to travel with such a bag, please contact Finnair Cargo.

Please keep in mind that your baggage should only include personal items you need during your trip. We cannot accept larger items, such as furniture, to be carried as checked baggage; they must be shipped as cargo.

Some special items that exceed the maximum measures, for example wheelchairs, may be accepted with a prior approval. In that case please contact Finnair customer care.
